Commitment
to SDGs
At Daikan Co., Ltd., we are engaged in efforts to achieve decarbonization through the introduction of solar power generation and storage batteries, as well as in the preservation, maintenance, and operation necessary for eco-friendly drum manufacturing. Additionally, we participate in community-oriented contribution activities such as cleaning efforts and events.
What is SDGs?
SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) are common goals adopted by the United Nations in September 2015 to guide the world toward a more sustainable future by 2030. These goals address global challenges such as eradicating poverty, promoting education, advancing gender equality, and enhancing measures against climate change. The SDGs consist of 17 specific goals and 169 targets, encouraging actions at all levels including government, businesses, civil society, and international organizations. By achieving these goals, we aim to create a fairer and more sustainable world where all people can lead rich and healthy lives.
Daikan Co., Ltd.’s Initiatives and Examples
Steel drum
The steel pan is a percussion instrument made from drums, invented in the Caribbean nation of Trinidad and Tobago. As part of our community contribution efforts, we have hosted performances by a steel pan band at local elementary schools and community halls. By continuously providing drum materials to artisans in Trinidad and Tobago in the spirit of fair trade, we contribute to poverty alleviation.
※Fair Trade: Purchasing products from developing countries at a fair price that supports the producers’ livelihoods, with limited profits.
Solar power
We utilize electricity generated from solar power within our company. By installing solar panels, we aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by generating our own power and minimizing the use of fossil fuels.
Cleanup activities
As part of our community service activities, we conduct monthly clean-ups around our company. Additionally, we participate in clean-up efforts along the Yodogawa riverbank in collaboration with local volunteer organizations.
Paints
We use environmentally friendly paint that does not contain harmful heavy metals as standard colors for our drums. This significantly contributes to reducing solvent usage and VOC (volatile organic compounds), thus alleviating the burden on the global environment.
Wastewater treatment system
We ensure that the water discharged from our factory is treated through various processes to be environmentally harmless before being released.
Reuse of scrap
We utilize scraps from the top and bottom plates of the drums as materials for bottle caps, selling and repurchasing them for further use. Additionally, we recycle drums that could not be turned into products as raw materials for steel production.
